Celebrate Hispanic Latino Heritage Month

Celebrate the contributions of our Hispanic and Latino community during Hispanic Latino Heritage Month! From September 15 through October 15, explore a self-guided exhibit highlighting the American Latino community’s rich histories and culture at the Gwinnett Justice and Administration Center atrium in Lawrenceville. Then, enjoy the Fiesta on the Plaza from 6:00pm to 8:00pm on October 15 with food, music, entertainment, and more. To register, visit GwinnettCounty.com/FiestaOnThePlaza.

Microtransit pilot program launches in Norcross

A new microtransit pilot program is now available for local travel in Norcross and the Gateway85 Community Improvement District. Microtransit is a curb-to-curb service that will pick you up and take you anywhere within the designated area. For only $3, you can order your on-demand ride with the Ride Gwinnett app or by calling dispatch at 770.246.4770 and selecting option 3.

 

The program is funded 44 percent each by Gwinnett County and Gateway85 CID, with the city of Norcross covering the remainder. The pilot is scheduled to operate for one year. Visit RideGwinnett.com for more information and to download the Ride Gwinnett app. 

Gwinnett to host glass and paper recycling event

Gwinnett residents are invited to drop off glass and paper for recycling Thursday, September 12 from 11:00am to 1:00pm at Lenora Park, located at 4500 Lenora Church Road in Snellville. Glass and paper should be sorted into separate containers for recycling. Paper should be in a disposable container that will not be returned.

Apply to be a poll official

Get involved in the electoral process and give back to your community! Gwinnett Voter Registrations and Elections is seeking citizens of all backgrounds, especially bilingual Spanish speakers, to become poll officials for the upcoming election. It’s a great opportunity to see how elections work, gain valuable work experience, and earn between $175 to $440 per election. Apply at GwinnettCountyJobs.com

Apply for the District Attorney’s Office Citizens Academy

Residents can get an in-depth understanding of the criminal justice system. The District Attorney’s Office will host its second Citizens Academy from Tuesday, October 1 through Tuesday, December 3 from 6:00pm to 8:30pm. Sessions will be held every Tuesday in Conference Room C at the Gwinnett Justice and Administration Center located at 75 Langley Drive in Lawrenceville.

 

Applications will be accepted through Friday, September 13 at GwinnettCounty.com/DACitizensAcademy.

Share your input for the Gwinnett Disparity Study

Gwinnett County Government is seeking your feedback for its first disparity study. The County has partnered with Griffin & Strong, P.C. to evaluate potential disparities or barriers in government contracting and purchasing for small and/or underrepresented businesses. 

 

Register for an in-person informational meeting on Wednesday, September 18 from 6:00pm to 7:00pm at the George Pierce Park, Community Room. You can also register for a virtual meeting on Thursday, September 19 at 2:00pm.

Solicitor’s Office to hold second annual Dash 4 Domestic Violence Awareness 5K

The Gwinnett County Solicitor’s Office will hold its second annual Dash 4 Domestic Violence Awareness 5K on Saturday, October 5 at 8:00am at Alexander Park, located at 955 Scenic Highway in Lawrenceville. Registration is $30 per participant. This rate will increase to $35 after September 13.

 

Register at GwinnettCounty.com/Dash4DomesticViolence. Proceeds from the 5K will go to three domestic violence organizations that provide essential resources to survivors and education to the public — Mosaic Georgia, Partnership Against Domestic Violence, and Ahimsa House.
