Join us for Kids to Parks Day!
Did you know you can boost your well-being by simply going outside? From physical and cognitive to social and emotional development, outdoor play is essential to children reaching milestones as they grow.
 
Kids to Parks Day is the perfect time to tap into the power of nature! Organized by National Park Trust, this annual campaign connects kids and families with local, state, and national parks and public lands through thousands of events that promote outdoor discovery and exploration.
 
Here in Gwinnett, we’ve got more than 50 parks to check out, plus free Kids to Parks Day events at several locations on Saturday, May 18 from 10:00am to 1:00pm with games, crafts, and activities. Welcome to Neighbors in Uniform, a monthly newsletter that provides information about Gwinnett County Police events, topics, programs, and initiatives. We are honored to have the respect and trust of the residents we serve and protect, and we're happy to be a resource and support.
 
 
Gwinnett Police Department shines at the 2024 VALOR Awards
 
The Gwinnett Chamber recently held its 19th Annual VALOR Awards, celebrating the bravery and dedication of public safety professionals. Among those honored were members of the Gwinnett Police Department:

  • Public Safety Officer of the Year: Corporal Michael Ricks
  • Public Safety Unit of the Year: Gang Unit (pictured below)
 
Thank you, Gwinnett Chamber, for recognizing the bravery and critical role that first responders play in our communities. Our officers spend countless hours away from their own families to ensure the safety of others. This dedication sometimes means trading the warmth of home for the uncertainty of the streets and the laughter of their children for the cries of strangers in need.

Reducing Gwinnett 911 hold times
 
Communications officers handle a variety of calls ranging from minor car crashes to life-saving CPR instructions daily. Last year, the 911 Center received an average of 2,032 calls per day, with an average hold time of 1 minute and 27 seconds. As of March 2024, the average hold time has been reduced to just 16 seconds. Our staffing increase during peak times and improved training operations are major factors in our goal of improving wait times. In the most recent reporting period of March 2024, 84 percent of calls were answered within 20 seconds, and 94 percent of calls were answered within one minute (excluding abandoned calls). 
 
Gwinnett Police would like to extend our sincere appreciation to our 911 communications officers for their efforts in reducing call hold times. Ensuring that Gwinnett residents receive high-quality service is important to us and improving the overall operation of the 911 Center is crucial in achieving this goal.
 
This week we celebrate National Public Safety Telecommunicators week. In the video below, communications officers give a glimpse into their world – what a typical day brings, the unexpected twists that keep things exciting, and why they love this essential job.

Drop off expired medications at Drug Take Back Event
On Saturday, April 27, we’re once again partnering with the Drug Enforcement Agency for National Prescription Drug Take Back Day. Residents can dispose of unwanted or potentially dangerous prescription medications. 
 
The Take Back Day is an effort to prevent medication misuse and opioid addiction. If you want to contribute to making our communities safer by removing unneeded medications from your home, please stop by police headquarters or a precinct near you from 10:00am to 2:00pm. You can also drop off expired medications at the Earth Day recycling event on the same day at Coolray Field.
 
Liquids, syringes, sharps, and other non-prescription drugs will not be accepted. No appointment is needed and anyone dropping off prescription drugs will not be asked about medical history nor how they came into possession of the medications. To learn more, visit GwinnettCounty.com.
 
Take a Firearm Safety and Security class at your local precinct
Learn guidelines and best practices for safe gun handling by joining one of our Firearm Safety and Security classes. The classes are offered at all police precincts and taught by local law enforcement personnel.
 
Registration is required to participate, and seating is limited. Youth who plan to attend must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Residents are prohibited from bringing their own guns to class. All classes start promptly at 6:30pm.

Celebrate Diversity at the 10th Annual Gwinnett Multicultural Festival
 
Join us in celebrating the rich tapestry of cultures that make up our vibrant community at the 10th annual Gwinnett Multicultural Festival and County Government Open House on Saturday, May 18 from 10:00am to 2:00pm at Gwinnett Place Mall, located at 2100 Pleasant Hill Road in Duluth.
 
This year's festival promises an array of exciting activities and performances that showcase the global diversity of Gwinnett. The festival is a free family-friendly event with plenty of activities for kids, including face painting, inflatables, and a touch-a-truck area featuring specialized vehicles from our public safety departments. Families can also take advantage of free car seat checks offered by Gwinnett Police and Gwinnett Fire and Emergency Services.
 
The festival will kick off with a naturalization ceremony to welcome our newest citizens. You’ll have a chance to visit more than 60 exhibits and meet the people who work in Gwinnett departments to discover services and programs available to residents. There will also be a diverse selection of delicious foods from around the world. Youth Police Academy is back this summer
 
Our annual Youth Police Academy ramps back up this summer! The academy is free and open to students living in Gwinnett who will be enrolled in grades 7 through 12 as of August 2024.
 
  • Middle School: June 24 to 28
  • High School: July 8 to 12
 
We curate an unparalleled glimpse into the world of law enforcement and the vital role it plays in our society. Participants will have the opportunity to learn about CPR/AED, emergency vehicle operations, crime scene investigations, internet safety, K-9, and much more. The hands-on approach is not just a learning experience but an exciting adventure into the world of policing; it's a launch pad for our youth to become informed, responsible, and proactive.

April is National Volunteers Month - Thank you to all Gwinnett Police volunteers!
 
We want to recognize and thank all of the community volunteers who give their time and energy to support Gwinnett Police’s mission.
 
Thank you to the Police Citizens Advisory Board members (pictured below), who provide recommendations related to law enforcement policies, procedures, practices, and training; the Citizens Police Academy Alumni Association of Gwinnett who support staff and residents year-round; the Volunteer Citizens on Patrol who help patrol our parks; the Community Oriented Police Service (C.O.P.S.) liaison and block captains who lead our Neighborhood Watch programs; and all other volunteers who willingly give of their time and talents, helping us to reach out and connect with the community in meaningful ways. Please know that your efforts are highly valued and deeply appreciated! 
 
Safety Tip of the Month: Pedestrian Safety
Follow these tips to keep you and your loved ones safe while crossing the road:
 
  • Always use crosswalks while crossing the road. Avoid jay walking.
  • Be sure to stop and look both ways several times before crossing the road.
  • If crossing to the other side of the street, do so quickly.
  • Reduce distractions. Avoid looking down at your phone or walking with earphones in.
  • Try not to carry heavy items if you plan on crossing the road. This may slow you down.
  • Wear brightly colored clothing if you plan on walking. Avoid areas that are not well lit.
  • If you go out drinking, avoid walking home even if you live close by. Call a taxi or rideshare service or contact a friend to pick you up.

Singleton Park and Greenway construction is underway
County officials broke ground on the new Singleton Park and Greenway trail in March. The 1.58-acre park will meet the community’s diverse needs and preferences with recreational and accessibility features, including open leisure spaces, a playground, a multimodal trail, shade structures, and a Ride Gwinnett stop.
 
The $6.3 million project is funded by the American Rescue Plan Act, a Governor’s Office grant, 2017 SPLOST programs, and a Community Development Block Grant. Visit GwinnettSPLOST.com to learn more about SPLOST.

Have you heard about Gwinnett’s Transit Plan? The County launched an educational hub for residents to get informed about the plan and have their transit questions answered.
The hub explores different transit modes, benefits for the community, and information about a potential transit referendum. It also features a monthly video series that highlights different components of the plan.
 
Gwinnett’s Transit Plan aims to provide 100 percent transit coverage through the expansion of the County’s existing microtransit service. Proposed services also include an airport ride to Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, high-capacity systems, and additional transit transfer facilities. Attend a poll official hiring event
Become a poll official at an upcoming hiring event to gain valuable work experience and earn up to $440 per election. During the event, attendees must complete an I-9 form and bring the required original identification documents for verification. If you are unable to attend a hiring event, you can learn more about becoming a poll official in Gwinnett.

Register your kids for summer camp!
We have a variety of action-packed programs planned where kids ages 5 to 12 years old can have fun, explore new activities, and make friends. Beginning Tuesday, May 28, the full-day camp features themed recreational experiences and are CAPS-approved. Lunch is provided daily, but campers can bring their own. Tax Assessors’ Office issues Annual Notice of Assessment
Most Residential and Commercial Annual Notices of Assessment for 2024 will be mailed in early April. An Annual Notice of Assessment is not a tax bill. The notice informs you of the value assessed on your residential or commercial real estate as of January 1, 2024. Property owners may appeal the assessed value within 45 days of the date of the notice by submitting a completed PT-311A state appeal form to the Tax Assessors’ Office by visiting Gwinnett-Assessor.com.
 
Get a free recycling cart! 
Did you know unincorporated Gwinnett County residents can request a recycling cart? Gwinnett Solid Waste offers this resource to those currently receiving trash services. As we head into April, I hope you and your loved ones enjoy more outdoor activities while fending off the pollen.
 
March was a busy month. I enjoyed the opportunity to engage with residents in District 3 to share updates, accomplishments, and the Board of Commissioners' notice of intent to call for a transit referendum. A special thanks to all residents who joined in person and watched the town halls on Facebook. You can watch the March 11 town hall on Facebook if you missed the town halls.
 
I, alongside Chairwoman Nicole Love Hendrickson, also had the privilege of joining Congresswoman Lucy McBath as she hosted a Community Violence Intervention & Prevention Initiative Grant Briefing. We gained valuable information on the grant funded through the U.S. Department of Justice, Office of Justice Programs.

Lastly, before March closed out, I enjoyed celebrating the 101st birthday of WWII Veteran and Snellville resident Mr. James Davis. His wisdom and service to our country have helped make the world and Gwinnett a better place.

Join us on Thursday, April 18 at the Elizabeth H. Williams Branch of the Gwinnett County Public Library in Snellville from 6:00pm to 7:30pm for the Household Hazardous Waste workshop. Residents will learn about recycling, reducing, storing, and disposing of household hazardous waste.

Gwinnett now offers 13 glass recycling locations around the County, including two containers in District 3. Residents are encouraged to bring clean and empty glass bottles or jars of all colors to Lenora Park in Snellville or the Harbins Park baseball entrance in Dacula.

In her fourth State of the County address, County Commission Chairwoman Nicole Love Hendrickson reflected on the County's progress toward ensuring Gwinnett is a community where opportunity thrives.
 
Hendrickson cited how the County maintains its Triple AAA/Aaa bond rating, while making historic investments in affordable housing, infrastructure, and human services intended to remove barriers for residents and businesses alike. She also noted the Board's intention to call for a transit referendum that would give Gwinnett residents the opportunity to vote on the issue of the future of mobility this November. In closing, Hendrickson challenged the audience to take the first step toward the doorway of opportunity that is open for everyone.

Vote in the General Primary Election
 
The General Primary Election Day is on Tuesday, May 21. Voters can cast their ballots in advance in person from April 29 to May 17 at the Voter Registrations and Elections office and other voting locations. The 10 polling locations will be open every day, including weekends, from 7:00am to 7:00pm. New Sensory Treehouse opens in Buford
County leaders joined together to open the new Sensory Treehouse at the Gwinnett Environmental and Heritage Center in March. Made of weathering Corten steel, this treehouse offers a unique experience for people with mobility disabilities to enjoy the tree canopy. It features a 340-foot accessible steel walkway with three expanded nodes, surrounded by a viewing and activity platform and a high-hanging hammock.
 
After years of planning, the updated Blue Planet film debuted at the Sensory Treehouse, emphasizing environmental education and sustainability. The $4.7 million total cost of the treehouse and film projects were funded by the 2017 Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax program, known as SPLOST.

Tax Assessors' Office issues Real Estate Property Annual Notices of Assessment 
 
Most Residential and Commercial Annual Notices of Assessment for 2024 will be mailed in April and can also be downloaded from the Tax Assessors’ website at Gwinnett-Assessor.com. An Annual Notice of Assessment is not a tax bill. The notice informs you of the value assessed on your residential or commercial real estate as of January 1, 2024.
 
Property owners may appeal the assessed value within 45 days of the date of the notice by submitting a completed PT-311A form online or by mail. Mailed forms must be received or postmarked within 45 days of the date of your notice. It is suggested if mailing to send the documents by a trackable method to confirm delivery. For questions, call 770.822.7200.
 
County offices closed for Memorial Day
 
All Gwinnett County Government offices, apart from operations required for the comfort and safety of residents, will be closed Monday, May 27 in observance of the Memorial Day holiday and will resume regular hours on Tuesday, May 28. Trash and recycling collection will be delayed by one day during the holiday week. For more information, visit GCSolidWaste.com. A Magistrate Court judge will be available at the Gwinnett County Detention Center during the holiday.

2023 VOLUNTEER GWINNETT BY THE NUMBER
Volunteer Gwinnett: Honoring Excellence
Our volunteer troops made an incredible impact in 2023, and we’re proud to report their impressive achievements. Through the collective efforts of local communities and government, volunteers contributed 1,036,769 hours, with 44,510 individuals participating in 9,961 service opportunities, projects, and volunteer events. The economic value? A staggering $32,968,936 in savings for Gwinnett taxpayers. We extend our heartfelt appreciation for your outstanding contributions and ongoing support as we look forward to another great year in 2024. 
Gwinnett Serves: Extending Reach
In 2023, our Gwinnett Serves program welcomed 21 new community partners into its ever-expanding network of nonprofits, faith-based organizations, and civic groups. Last year, Volunteer Gwinnett facilitated 2,835 volunteer hours to benefit these qualifying organizations. For our Great Days of Service event in October, Gwinnett Serves orchestrated 77 volunteer projects and collection drives – all in a single weekend – and was awarded the 2023 National Association of Volunteer Programs in Local Government Rising to Excellence Award for this annual campaign.
Employee Volunteers: Promoting Wellness
Gwinnett County employees stepped up to the plate in 2023, sparked by a new wellness incentive program that included multiple volunteer opportunities through Volunteer Gwinnett. Our employees mentored 2,125 sixth- and eighth-grade students at Junior Achievement Discovery Center Gwinnett, the Lawrenceville campus of Junior Achievement of Georgia, and they showed up in droves to support our Mobile Food Security program. With 24 dedicated volunteer events, employee engagement soared throughout the year. Thank you for going the extra mile! We are grateful for the work you’ve done and the time you’ve given. Help residents recycle on Earth Day
Join Gwinnett Clean and Beautiful and Gwinnett Solid Waste Management on Saturday, April 27 for the annual Earth Day recycling event. From 9:00am to noon, residents will drop off hard-to-recycle items, such as electronics, latex and oil-based paints, clothing, paper, and tires. Volunteers are needed to direct traffic, unload vehicles, break down boxes, and more.

Promote health and wellness in Gwinnett
Highlighting Mental Health Awareness Month, Live Healthy Gwinnett is seeking volunteers for the Community Health Fair on Saturday, May 11 at George Pierce Park in Suwanee. Volunteers are needed to assist with event setup and reset across two dates and various shifts.
 
Volunteers should be prepared for physical tasks, such as lifting heavy objects and standing for extended periods. To register, visit VolunteerGwinnett.net or email LiveHealthyGwinnett@GwinnettCounty.com.
Deliver meals to seniors
Become a volunteer driver for the Home-Delivered Meals program! Our volunteer drivers provide essential support by delivering meals directly to homebound clients.
 
Volunteers must be at least 18 years old, have a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation, and be capable of meeting the physical demands of the role, including standing, lifting five-to-ten-pound bags of food items, and climbing steps or flights of stairs. Enhance Gwinnett Citizen Fire Academy Alumni Association’s website

Liaison Spotlight – Garret Dufty
Garret Dufty, the Outreach Specialist at Gwinnett Water Resources, is dedicated to coordinating volunteer events and educating the community on waterway conservation. With a political science background from the University of North Georgia, his passion for conservation grew during his AmeriCorps service with the Mills River Partnership in North Carolina. Garret’s favorite volunteer experiences are managing invasive plant species to support local wildlife.
 
When he’s not advocating for water conservation or battling invasive plants, Garret enjoys family hikes, gardening, and woodworking. Certified as a Master Herpetologist, Georgia Master Naturalist, and Georgia Adopt-A-Stream Trainer, Garret shares his knowledge and enthusiasm for nature with everyone he meets.
 
Apart from ongoing volunteer opportunities with Gwinnett Water Resources, Garret invites you to join the department for the annual Water Wonders Spring Festival on Saturday, April 27 at Shoal Creek Filter Plant in Buford, featuring a day of fun-filled activities and facility tours.

Here’s your chance to get a firsthand look at saving lives and protecting property with Gwinnett Fire and Emergency Services! Online applications for the next Citizens Fire Academy are now being accepted until March 24. The nine-week program offers a behind-the-scenes look at department operations and specialty teams like Swiftwater Rescue, Technical Rescue, Hazardous Materials, and Mass Casualty response.

GC&B Out on the Town
Gwinnett Clean & Beautiful has been honored with a Governor's Circle Award! We were invited to take part in Keep Georgia Beautiful Day last month, and - while there - our Carmita and Schelly had an amazing time at the Capitol! 

We were recognized during the House of Representatives session. Before our recognition, the representatives were asked to stand if they had a local KAB affiliate in their area, and then we were asked to stand. It was so inspiring to see the gratitude shown by the House of Representatives. Jeff Cown, Director of the Environmental Protection Division, and Christopher Nunn, Department of Consumer Affairs Commissioner, were there to thank us for all of our hard work and commitment to our local communities and the state of Georgia.

We got lots of great pics and had some meaningful conversations with State Representatives Farooq Mughal and Matt Reeves, and - even though she's a proud Auburn grad - our Executive Director Schelly Marlatt even posed with UGA's Hairy Dawg.
 

Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day

A very special THANK YOU to the drivers of the 531 vehicles that took part in our Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day on Saturday and to the 60 volunteers who worked so hard to direct traffic and haul items from their cars to the appropriate stations! You all had a hand in keeping Gwinnett clean and beautiful! 
 
We had a BLAST at the Gwinnett Science, Engineering, + Innovation Fair last month. Gwinnett Clean & Beautiful Executive Director Schelly Marlatt was honored to be a judge alongside our Board Chair, Donald Lee, and Board Member Jay Bassett.

GC&B team member Brenda McDaniel was also there, and we had several GC&B Board Member sightings, including Pam Ledbetter, Craig Roberts, and Jessica Holden. Speaking of sightings - Maggie the Cow was there, too! There were so many great projects, and we all loved speaking to these really creative, super-smart students. Way to go, kiddos! We're already looking forward to next year's Team STEM event!
 

Leap Into Litter Cleanup Day
On February 29 - Leap Day - Gwinnett Clean & Beautiful, Gwinnett County Department of Water Resources, and some truly amazing volunteers from our Green Youth Advisory Council and local high schools converged on Gas South District's Preston C. Williams Gateway Park for our first ever Leap Into Litter Cleanup Day. We filled 17 bags of garbage and left the park much better than we found it!

We've Got Some Exciting News On Tap!
Thanks to a collaboration between Gwinnett Clean & Beautiful, Slow Pour Brewing Company in Lawrenceville, 6S Brewing Company in Duluth, Cultivation Brewery in Norcross, and StillFire Brewing in Suwanee, beer lovers with have a cool new brew to sip this Spring! WIth Earth Day falling on April 22, the "Earth Day" beer will be served in the taprooms of all four breweries throughout the month of April, with a portion of the proceeds benefiting Gwinnett Clean & Beautiful. As we enter March, we're preparing for a new season and honoring women during Women's History Month! It's a great time to get outside and explore all that Gwinnett has to offer while also recognizing the women who continue to have a positive impact on our lives. Keep reading to learn more about some exciting events we have in March.

I will be hosting town halls throughout March, discussing our district accomplishments and the Board of Commissioners' intent to call for a transit referendum. I hope to see you at one or all of these events:

Voters are not limited to Election Day to cast their ballot for the March 12 Presidential Preference Primary. Registered voters vote in advance in person every day, including weekends, through March 8 from 7:00am to 7:00pm at the Gwinnett Voter Registrations and Elections Office in Lawrenceville and nine other advance voting locations around the county.

Board of Commissioners adopts 2045 Unified Plan
The Gwinnett Board of Commissioners has adopted the 2045 Unified Plan, setting a vision for Gwinnett's future over the next two decades. Led by Gwinnett Planning and Development, the plan was developed over an 11-month period using stakeholder and community feedback as a catalyst for its recommendations, tackling issues related to land use, economic development, housing, transportation, sustainable infrastructure, and community resources.
 
The 2045 Unified Plan serves as a roadmap for Gwinnett, offering tangible steps to accommodate the county's projected population growth of more than half a million residents by 2045. The plan aims to maintain Gwinnett's high quality of life while fostering intentional and beneficial development. The plan also includes actionable goals, strategies, priorities, and implementation tools to guide elected officials, County staff, and other community leaders as they work to improve Gwinnett for all its residents. E-commerce spaces available at Police headquarters and precincts
The Gwinnett Police Department now offers dedicated parking spots for those who wish to buy, sell, and trade goods at each precinct and headquarters.
 
Each parking spot is marked with a sign and is monitored with video surveillance 24 hours a day and seven days a week. Find a location of Gwinnett Police headquarters or a precinct near you.

Food distribution
Mobile food distribution at Rhodes Jordan Park
Residents can pick up fresh and shelf-stable foods on Tuesday, March 12 at Rhodes Jordan Park in Lawrenceville from 3:00pm until supplies last. The distribution site is a contactless drive-thru and no identification is required.

Empower Gwinnett applications open
The Empower Gwinnett Government Internship Program, formerly Career Starts Here, is Gwinnett County Government's summer internship program for youth ages 15 to 21. The four-week paid internship program offers Gwinnett’s young people an opportunity to gain valuable, real-world experience.
 
Pay is $15 and interns must be available to participate in the entire program, which includes two workshops, for 40-hour work weeks starting in June, and the awards ceremony. Commissioners adopt the 2045 Unified Plan
On February 20, the Board of Commissioners adopted the 2045 Unified Plan, a comprehensive roadmap guiding Gwinnett’s development through the year 2045.
 
With a core focus on accommodating the county’s growing population, the 2045 Unified Plan preserves Gwinnett’s high quality of life while promoting intentional and community-beneficial development. It was developed using stakeholder and community input for its recommendations and tackles key issues related to land use, economic development, housing, transportation, sustainable infrastructure, and community resources.
 
The plan also comprises actionable goals, strategies, priorities, and implementation to guide elected officials, County staff, and other leaders as they work to improve Gwinnett for all its residents. The 2045 Unified Plan works in tandem with the County's recent Comprehensive Housing Study and the ongoing Comprehensive Transportation Plan.

Board approves notice of intent to call for a transit referendum
 
The Board of Commissioners unanimously approved a notice of intent to call for a referendum, a crucial step to improve mobility around Gwinnett. As outlined in Georgia law, this action is required before the Board can officially call for a transit referendum to be placed on the 2024 November ballot. The Transit Plan, approved last year, aims to expand the County’s current transit system, Ride Gwinnett.
 
This plan provides 100 percent transit coverage across the county, including two connections from Gwinnett County to Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport and expansion of the system’s shared-ride service. Apply for the Gwinnett Youth Commission
 
Get an inside look at Gwinnett County Government, interact with local leaders, and receive community leadership training this summer through the Gwinnett Youth Commission. This year-long program includes an eight-week summer training session and focuses on personal and professional development, public service, and more. To be considered for this upcoming term, rising high school freshmen, sophomores, juniors, and seniors must apply by Friday, April 5. There is no cost to participate in this program. Tax Assessors' Office issues Real Estate Property Annual Notices of Assessment
 
Most Residential and Commercial Annual Notices of Assessment for 2024 will be mailed in April. An Annual Notice of Assessment is not a tax bill. The notice informs you of the value assessed on your residential or commercial real estate as of January 1, 2024. Property owners may appeal the assessed value within 45 days of the date of the notice by submitting a completed PT-311A state appeal form to the Tax Assessors’ Office or by visiting Gwinnett-Assessor.com.

County to break ground at Singleton Park
Commissioners gave the green light to build Singleton Park and Greenway in unincorporated Norcross. The new 1.58-acre park will meet the community’s diverse needs and preferences with recreational and accessibility features, including open leisure spaces, a playground, a multimodal trail, shade structures, and a Ride Gwinnett stop.
 
F.S. Scarborough LLC was awarded the contract. The $6.3 million project is funded by the American Rescue Plan Act, a Governor’s Office grant, 2017 SPLOST programs, and a CARES Act Community Development Block Grant. Visit GwinnettSPLOST.com to learn more about SPLOST.

Gwinnett Police is partnering with the Drug Enforcement Administration for National Drug Take Back, an initiative that allows residents to properly dispose of unused or expired prescription medications. Residents can drop off tablets, capsules, patches, and other forms of prescription drugs on Saturday, April 27 from 10:00am to 2:00pm at police headquarters and any of our six precincts. Have some hard-to-recycle items? Join us – rain or shine – at Gwinnett’s annual Earth Day recycling event on Saturday, April 27 from 9:00am to noon at Coolray Field in Lawrenceville. Each year, Gwinnett Solid Waste Management and Gwinnett Clean & Beautiful join the global community to celebrate Earth Day. Drop off items that are typically more difficult to recycle, such as electronics, latex and oil-based paints, tires, paper, and clothing. Have you registered to vote? The 2024 election season is underway, and the deadline to register to vote in the General Primary Election is April 22. The General Primary Election Day is May 21 with the runoff on June 18. OFFICERS LEVERAGE TECHNOLOGY TO FIND MISSING ELDERLY WOMAN IN LESS THAN TWO HOURS
Officers assigned to North Precinct utilized our Situational Awareness and Crime Response Center (SACRC) and Flock cameras to locate and safely return an elderly female to her family.
On February 27, a uniform patrol officer was approached by a citizen while on patrol near 5885 Cumming Hwy in Buford, who stated her 82-year-old friend was missing. In an effort to locate the missing woman, officers contacted our analysts at our Situational Awareness and Crime Response Center.
Approximately one hour later, the missing person’s vehicle was observed entering Gwinnett County. Analysts promptly alerted officers in the area, who located and pulled over the car. The missing person told officers she was lost and did not know how to return home. Through the swift actions of our analysts and with the help of our technology, officers safely reunited the elderly missing person with her family. Gwinnett County Police would like to thank the Sugar Hill Marshals, who helped in this case.
