Plans are underway for Career Day at W.J. Cooper Elementary! On Thursday, May 9th, we are hosting Career Day (9 am - 2 pm). I would like to encourage you to join us. It means so much to your children when you actively participate at their school. They are proud of you and what you do.
If you have a career that requires you to drive a truck, whether it is a fire truck, police car, phone truck, ice cream truck, bulldozer, lawnmower, tractor, etc., we want to hear from you! Transportation careers will be shared in the parking lot by the gym. During that time, classes will visit you to learn about your work vehicle.
In the past we have had a variety of careers shared with students. Some of our speakers have also shared their life-enriching hobbies. If you are a musician, professional athlete, secretary, doctor, artist, nurse, construction worker, soldier, hairdresser, semi driver, veterinarian, lawyer, dentist, activist, pilot, accountant, police officer, volunteer, politician, chef, DJ, carpenter, owner of your own business, college student, etc., this is your day! Be sure to bring the “tools of your trade.” Kids love show and tell.
If you would like to participate, please click on the Google link below to sign up. Kids love stuff, so if you have any free samples please bring them. Remember, the only way we can make Career Day possible for Cooper students is if parents and community members participate. Thank you for volunteering!
Please click on the link below to sign up for Career Day on Thursday, May 9th.

March 2024

Hello L. David,

From egg hunts to St. Paddy’s Day shenanigans, we’ve got so much to celebrate this March! Join us for some recreational fun as we usher in spring with family and friends around Gwinnett.

Celebrate an egg-ceptional holiday!
While the custom of painting hard-boiled eggs during springtime pre-dates Christianity, the origin story of egg hunts and the Easter bunny is commonly attributed to an egg-laying hare in Germany named Osterhase in the 17th century. Children made nests and left them outside for this folkloric creature to leave colored eggs, candy, and even toys. By the 19th century, egg rolling had become popular, with the White House hosting its first roll in 1878.

Today, the fun and games continue. Gwinnett’s egg-stra special offerings range from splashy underwater searches and a nighttime quest to traditional hunts, and the Bunny will be making an appearance at select events for photo ops. Sign up today, and don’t forget your basket!

If you are a homeowner who has been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, you may be eligible for mortgage assistance. The Georgia Department of Community Affairs launched the Georgia Mortgage Assistance Program to provide financial aid to those in need. It could reduce delinquent payments or payments currently in forbearance, lower your mortgage balance after income loss, or cover housing-related expenses. To check whether you are eligible to receive assistance, please visit GeorgiaMortgageAssistance.GA.gov.

Handling household hazardous waste properly
Household hazardous waste is a category of products considered to be corrosive, reactive, ignitable, or toxic. Many common household items such as lightbulbs, pesticides, paint, and batteries are considered HHW. When handling, never dump HHW into a storm drain, only buy as much as you need, and look for drop-off locations in your community like Gwinnett's HHW collection events.

By disposing of HHW properly, we can all work to protect our water resources. To learn more about protecting our waterways, visit Gwinnetth2o.com/GetEducated.
