Welcome to Neighbors in Uniform, a monthly newsletter that provides information about Gwinnett County Police events, topics, programs, and initiatives. We are honored to have the respect and trust of the residents we serve and protect, and we're happy to be a resource and support.
We hope you enjoyed Veterans Day, a day set aside to thank and honor all those who served in the United States military. We also observe Native American Heritage Month to call attention to the culture, traditions, and achievements of the nation's original residents and their descendants. As we celebrate Thanksgiving with friends and family, let's embrace the Native American philosophy of giving without expecting anything in return.

Gwinnett Police seeks community input
The Gwinnett County Police Department is committed to serving our community with excellence. To ensure we’re meeting your needs, we’re seeking public input through a community survey.
Randomly selected households will soon receive surveys in the mail. These surveys will ask about various aspects of police performance and help us identify areas for improvement. Your feedback is crucial in shaping the future of our department. The survey will not ask for any personal information, and your identity will be confidential.
If you aren't selected for this initial survey, a communitywide survey will be available in the coming weeks. Watch our social media for the announcement or sign up to be notified when that survey is ready at Polco.us/n/res/signup. Survey results will be compiled in a report by Polco and shared with the community upon completion.
Your voice matters. By participating in this survey, you’re helping to create a stronger community where everyone feels heard, supported, and valued. Thank you for your support.
If you have any questions about this survey, please contact Gwinnett Police at 770.513.5044.

Learn how to defend yourself in an active violence situation
An active shooter is an individual who is engaged in killing, or attempting to kill, people in a confined and populated area. These incidents are often unpredictable and can escalate quickly.
Don't miss our last Active Violence course this year to better understand the importance of situational awareness. The course covers key concepts: RUN, HIDE, FIGHT and AVOID, DENY, DEFEND. Participants will learn how to think critically and improvise to protect themselves during an active violence situation, as well as what to do once police officers arrive. These concepts will be learned in a classroom setting with no physical scenarios involved.
Visit GwinnettCounty.com/ActiveViolence to register for the last session on Thursday, December 5 at 6:30pm at Gwinnett Police West Precinct, located at 6160 Crescent Drive in Norcross.

Safety Tip of the Month: Avoid being the next victim of a car break-in
The holiday season is here! Here are some safety tips to keep you and your loved ones safe.
•Always lock your vehicle and close your windows completely.
•If you have a garage, always park inside it.
•Check your door handles before walking away to assure the doors are locked.
•Do not leave any valuable items inside your vehicle; purses, backpacks, laptops, cell phones, tablets, GPS units, and firearms should be secured with you each time you leave your vehicle.
•If you do need to secure items in your vehicle temporarily, always place them out of sight and do so before you reach your final destination. Criminals watch when you place a purse or laptop in your trunk before you go walking in a park, and they know you will be gone for a while. Never leave valuables in your vehicle overnight.
•Nothing should be visible when looking in your car. Charging cords, sunglasses, garage door openers, and loose change should be out of sight.
•Report any suspicious vehicles or individuals to the Police Department.
