January 2025

Hello L. David,

I hope each of you had a great holiday season! As we head into 2025, I hope we continue to push forward together.

I want to thank those who attended my swearing-in ceremony in December. It is the ultimate honor to represent the residents of District 3 and Gwinnett County for a new four-year term. You can view the ceremony here.

Keep reading below to learn more about some exciting events we have across Gwinnett this month.

Happening Around Gwinnett

Board of Commissioners adopts 2025 budget

At our first meeting of the year, the Gwinnett County Board of Commissioners approved a $2.67 billion budget for 2025 to fund County operations and projects for the year. This year's spending plan consists of a $2.11 billion operating budget and a $555 million capital improvements budget, which includes funds from the County's Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax Program.

The adopted budget addresses local needs such as public safety, community health, and high-quality infrastructure while balancing increasing costs of labor, materials, and services facing the County and residents alike. For more information about the adopted budget, visit GwinnettCounty.com.

Recycle your live Christmas tree

Want to make the holiday season sustainable? Drop off your live Christmas tree at a designated fire station between December 26 and January 22 as part of Gwinnett Clean & Beautiful's Bring One for the Chipper event. All collected trees will be chipped into mulch to use at County parks on Saturday, January 25 at Bethesda Park in Lawrenceville.

Volunteers are needed and must be 14 years of age to volunteer. Before dropping off your live Christmas tree at a County fire station, it must be free of lighting, tinsel, decorations, and tree stands. For more information and to volunteer, visit GwinnettCB.org.

Recycling

Trash and recycling set out guidelines

Trash, recyclables, bulk items, and yard trimmings are scheduled to be collected between 7:00am to 6:30pm on the day of service. Homeowners should place containers or items curbside prior to 7:00am on collection day. Trash and recycling carts should be placed within three feet of the curb or edge of the street and at least three feet away from any obstacles, preferably on the opposite side of the driveway from the mailbox with the trash cart lid opening facing the street.

Residents should use the approved solid waste cart provided by their haulers with trash placed inside with the lid closed. Any overflow will not be collected. When recycling curbside, ensure cans, bottles, and containers are rinsed before being placed in the cart and break down cardboard boxes. For more information on Gwinnett's set out guidelines and a list of unacceptable waste, visit GCSolidWaste.com.
