Prevent detention pond issues
|
Summer rains are in full swing, which means stormwater detention ponds are working hard. These ponds play a vital role in stormwater management by controlling runoff, preventing flooding, and protecting the environment; however, detention ponds can lose their effectiveness if they are not properly maintained. Catch potential pond problems early with these maintenance tips:
- Inspect your detention pond every three to four months and after large rain events
- Check for signs of erosion, sediment buildup, excessive litter, or structural problems
- Prevent trees from growing on the dam
- Keep the area free of trash and debris
For more information about what to look for during a self-inspection and how to address problems, visit Gwinnetth2o.com.
